Fidelity Investments: The Fidelity fund was established in 1930 after the stock market crash of 1929. The fidelity continued to operate till 1943 and it was acquired by Boston-based lawyer Edward C.     Merrill Lynch was founded by Charles E. Merrill in 1914. After a year Merrill conveyed his fellow investor Edmund C. Lynch and on board as a partner.

    E*Trade:  E-Trade’s ancestor, Trade Plus, was founded by two partners, William Porter and Bernard Newcomb in 1982. For the operations of the new company both the partners invested a total of $15,000. In 1991 both the founders started a new brokerage company E-Trade Securities Inc. with capital raised from TradePlus. An E-Trade earnings was $11 million in 1994 which was $8.5 million in 1992. Company’s quarterly revenue was at $15 million by 1996.

    In 1996 company went public through an Initial Public Offering. Company launched ETrade.com website after IPO where investors can buy and sell shares. In 2001 E- Trade acquired Web Street (an online brokerage firm) for $45 million which located in San Francisco, Boston, Beverly Hills and Denver.  In 2005 E-Trade acquired Harris direct which is a former brokerage service of Bank of Montreal. It also acquired Brown & Company of JP Morgan for $1.6 billion in cash. In 2016 E-Trade bought the parent company of Options House for $725 million.

    E-Trade is one of the pioneers in the online brokerage industry with more than 30 branches across the United States.
